Olympia

Olympia, Greece, is historically significant as the birthplace of the ancient Olympic Games, which were held every four years from 776 BC to 393 AD. The site was also a major religious center dedicated to Zeus, with the Temple of Zeus being its focal point. Within this temple was the Statue of Zeus, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, created by Phidias. The Games promoted unity and peace among Greek city-states through the Olympic truce. Today, Olympia’s archaeological site, featuring ruins of the stadium, temples, and training grounds, remains a UNESCO World Heritage Site, preserving its cultural and historical legacy.
